Aging In Place
The Mid-Island Y JCC is proud to receive funding from New York State Office for the Aging to operate three community centered programs known as “NNORCs” aimed at helping people to successfully age-in-place in their homes in Plainview, Old Bethpage and Syosset. We also maintain information for seniors in surrounding areas regarding where they can turn for assistance and support if they do not meet the state-approved eligibility criteria for our NNORC programs.
What is a NNORC?
NNORC is an acronym that stands for Neighborhood Naturally Occurring Retirement Community. It is a neighborhood or grouping of neighborhoods that weren’t developed specifically for older adults, but where a disproportionate number of seniors reside. NNORCs provide supportive services aimed at helping older adult age-in-place in their homes. They also harness the power of local volunteers to make the community an age-friendly place to live.
