MIYJCC Policies

Kashruth Policy
The Mid-Island Y JCC maintains Jewish dietary laws and we request the cooperation of all who use the facilities. In general, this means that all lunches or snacks brought into the MIYJCC must be Kosher with one of the following symbols:

Allergy & Health Aware
There are many children in our school who have severe, life-threatening peanut and tree nut allergies. We are making every effort to ensure that their safety and health are not jeopardized. This means the MIYJCC, with your cooperation, will do its reasonable best to maintain peanut and tree nut-free classrooms. When bringing in snacks for your child’s birthday or Shabbat, they must be pre-packaged with the appropriate Kosher symbol. In addition, these snacks must be peanut and tree nut-free. Bakery items are not allowed in the classrooms.

The following is a list of some acceptable snacks:
Fresh fruits & vegetables; plain mini-bagels; Entenmann’s Popems, Mini Muffins & Brownie Bites; Oreos; Chips Ahoy; CheezIts; ice cream cups (ShopRite brand); ices; graham crackers & pretzels. This is only a partial list.

Please notify each department of any allergies or health issues that could affect your child. Please read all food labels to make sure the snack is safe for all of our children. Thank you for understanding that a food allergy can sometimes present a life-threatening situation.

Snow Closings
For building closures due to inclement weather communications will be issued via:
•   www.miyjcc.org   •  “Y” Alert email blast   •   Cablevision, Channel 12   •  Text Messaging
