

Plainview Old Bethpage Cares, a program of the Mid Island Y Jewish Community Center.
The program works with residents in order to make Plainview a more "senior friendly" community.
Volunteer Opportunities (18+)
Transportation
Volunteer drivers accompany Plainview-Old Bethpage Cares clients to medical appointments, to visit spouses in nursing homes, and accompany them on errands (to the pharmacy, grocery store, post office, library, etc)
Friendly Visits
Provide informal socialization to clients who are elderly, homebound clients. Activities may include card games, playing scrabble, information conversation, as well as reading and discussions;
Neighborhood Buddy
Accompany one of our elderly, homebound clients to the library, Mid Island Y JCC, house of worship, social club meeting, a movie or other places in the community. Weekly or occasional visits are available.
Telephone Companion
Call homebound clients or those with little or non social contact, on a regular basis to see if they are well, in need of anything and/or engage in informal conversation.
Do Errands
Take care of local errands for clients who are homebound or have limited mobility.
Small Household Repairs
Perform minor repairs for Plainview-Old Bethpage cares clients such ass changing light bulbs, hanging pictures, put out garbage for pick up and chores of that nature.
Office Work
Help Plainview-Old Bethpage Cares staff with general clerical tasks such as mailings, phone calls etc.
Advisory Board
Participate in the community wide effort to make Plainview-Old Bethpage a more senior friendly community.
Join a committee that is working on an issue that you believe is important to address.
